More on Waypath

Posted by shonk at 05:52 PM in Blogging | TrackBack

I didn’t like how the boxes I was getting using the Waypath plugin cluttered up this page, so instead I’m just making a link at the bottom of each post called “Related”. If you click the “Related” link below any post, a new screen with will pop up that takes advantage of the Waypath search (thanks to Ton Zijlstra for the idea). I’m still thinking about adding Waypath results in a sidebar in the individual entries pages, as Dorky Goodness does, perhaps in conjunction with a short list of related posts from this blog generated by the Related Entries plugin. As always, if you have any suggestions, leave a comment.

I got one just a couple weeks ago.

For the record, it's Dorky Goodness, not Goddess. Goddess would imply that I've got ovaries (or had 'em). As that's not the case, I have to go for the very next best thing. Although, I bet I'd get more hits the other way...

In any case, I'm going to have to say I don't like the external link to Waypath. Their site results are kinda cluttered. It also doesn't fit your site layout. I'd either dump Waypath or figure out a way to integrate the results into your own site.

Just my buck fifty.

Sorry about that. Mixed up your site with "scriptygoddess":http://www.scriptygoddess.com/ in my brain, I think. I'll go edit the post right now.

As for the external link, you might be right. Ideally, what I'd like to do is generate a window like the Trackback window for each post that listed, say, five Waypath search results for each post, but I can't figure out how to do it (and I don't want to do it in the Trackback window itself). Any suggestions?

Well, lookee here - cruising through my Chance's End site referrals, and who's site should appear? None other than the old Shonkster himself... and with the Beethoven Underground picture series, too.

Hope things are going well for you. Just thought I'd stop by and say hi.

Hey, man. Drop me a line sometime, if you have a minute.

Well, you could build an external script that opens the Waypath stuff in another window. The problem with that approach would be that the Waypath results would be dynamically calculated and sometimes their site is a bit slow.

Another alternative is to create another archive category that acts like the individual archive and generates a page for Waypath.

Now, to be fair, I haven't tried either of these solutions (although I considered the first) because a) I'm lazy and b) I'm reasonably pleased with my existing implementation of Waypath.
